Landscape of Asian Shorts
Showing off the esthetics and beauty of short films, this short makes it clear how extreme fear can be created and remembered inside the limited space of a recording studio during a short period of time. The film uses the actor’s acting and the plot reaching its climax to show how the history of dictatorship and massacre is internalized in an individual, and how the lessons of history is passed on to the next generation. During the days of his youth, Hoseong protested against the government that deemed to be unreasonable. But his protests came at a significant sacrifice. He lost his wife, became crippled in one leg and mute. Fast forward to the present day, Hoseong is on his way to the marketplace to make preparations for his wife’s memorial ceremony. In the city center, a violent protest is brewing and he gets swept up in the maelstrom when he runs into none other than his one and only son, Gukyeong.

In a refugee camp in the Sahara desert, lives a deaf boy who wishes to learn how to write so that he could express the words of his best friend, the young camel Caramel. Words of Caramel is a deaf-short-film and a sensorial experience that invites spectators to feel, see and listen through the deaf world, enjoying the beauty and silence of the desert. However, the world of Kori is unusual because he has always lived in refugee camps of the Sahara unknowing the sign language but he needs to learn to write.
